CHELSEA, Mich. — Chelsea’s fire chief will be out of action for a few weeks while he recovers from a farm accident, according to a statement on the Chelsea Area Fire Authority website.

Jim Payeur was hooking up a piece of equipment when a tractor hit him around 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 23 near the intersection of Noble and Weber in Lodi Township.

Sgt. Geoffrey Fox of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department said Payuer was attempting to connect a spreader to a tractor when it shifted and pinned him between the two. He suffered significant trauma to his leg which led to serious blood loss. Aid was rendered on scene by family members and a passer-by who happened to be a medical student. Saline Area Fire Department and HVA responded to continue aid and then transport to the hospital.
