GREAT FALLS, Mont. — A fire chief was seriously injured Tuesday when his water tender collided with a brush truck while responding to a grass fire.

KRTV reported that Fort Shaw Fire Department Chief Dave Anderson was listed in critical condition for injuries to his chest.

Chief Anderson was driving the water tender, which flipped onto its side, pinning him, according to the report. He had to be extricated from the wreck and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Chief Anderson was alert and talking after the crash, according to the report. A firefighter driving the brush truck was not injured.

Mutual aid companies will provide tender service until the truck can be replaced, according to the report.
