BUFFALO, N.Y. — A volunteer firefighter battling leukemia won't have to buy T-shirts any time soon.
The Associated Press reported that Dave Blank, of the North Boston Volunteer Fire Company, told a nurse he wanted to wear T-shirts from other firefighter organizations to help him get through his chemotherapy treatments.
The nurse also happened to be a volunteer firefighter and she mentioned the idea to her chief, who spread the word among other fire companies. The T-shirt donation request hit social media, and now firefighter Blank has about 340 fire company T-shirts, according to the report.
The shirts and other paraphernalia have been sent as far away as Alaska and Hawaii.
Firefighter Blank says he gets a boost from knowing so many people are rooting for him, according to the report.
If you are a member of a fire company, and you'd like to send a T-shirt for Dave Blank, you can drop them off at, or mail them to the Amherst Bee, 5564 Main St, Williamsville, N.Y. 14221
