DAMON, Texas — A fire chief died Monday night after collapsing at the scene of a vacant dwelling fire. He served more than 20 years on the department.
Multiple sources reported that Fire Chief Hugh Ferguson, 52, with the Damon Volunteer Fire Department, was discovered down by other members of the department as they fought the blaze. Immediate attempts to save Chief Ferguson’s life were started, but were not successful.
Chief Ferguson was helping establish a water supply when he went down.
Chief Ferguson was transported by a helicopter to a hospital, where he later died, according to the report.
