Fire chief, firefighters quit when town ends EMS service

SELMA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — To avoid bankruptcy, a township board eliminated their emergency medical services.

Last Wednesday, the Selma Township board voted to end their EMS services at the fire department. The board says the EMS service was put into place about two years ago. Since then, it's put them $150,000 in the hole.

By eliminating EMS, there will no longer be 24-7 personnel at the department and North Flight will be covering their ambulance services from Cadillac rather than their own fire department.
