STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — Four West Routt Fire Protection District firefighters were injured when their engine rolled multiple times off the road, stopping after falling 255 feet down a hillside.

The firefighters on board were all buckled up Saturday when the incident occurred. They were taken to area hospitals where they were treated and released, according to Chief Trevor Guire.

Engine 7-1 slid off of a steep and icy road, rolling off the edge outside of Steamboat Springs. The crew was responding to a garage fire at 40700 Peak View Court.

Speed was not a factor. Crews spent Sunday attempting to recover the engine.

There were no injuries reported in the garage fire, which is still under investigation.
