ROCKFORD, Ill. — A Blackhawk firefighter remained in the Winnebago County Jail on Tuesday, four days after he was arrested on four counts of arson.
Brandon Cox, 21, was arrested Friday in connection with alleged arson fires at a dumpster, a trailer and two vacant mobile homes between Jan. 1 and Feb. 3, said Sheriff's Department Deputy Chief Mike Schultz.
Three of the fires occurred within the boundaries of the Blackhawk Fire Protection District.
Fire Chief John Trail said Cox joined the Blackhawk department in November and was "terminated immediately upon our notification that he was a suspect in the investigation."
Schultz said additional charges are pending.
Cox is being held on $25,000 bond. His next court appearance is April 30.
