Photo of the Week: FDNY firefighter who died from 9/11 cancer awarded posthumous medal

Calling all fire photographers: FireRescue1 wants to see your pictures! The next time you come across something inspiring, take out the camera and submit it to FireRescue1! Just remember to include your name, agency information and brief background information on the picture.

This week's Photo of the Week shows the family of FDNY Firefighter Daniel Foley at the department's Medal Day ceremony, where they accepted the Emerald Society Medal awarded posthumously for Foley's rescue of two children in 2019.

Foley braved flames and thick smoke to find and save the children from the burning high-rise after seeing their small hands waving in a seventh-floor window. One year later, Foley died from 9/11-related pancreatic cancer. Foley was the brother of Firefighter Tommy Foley, who was killed in the line of duty at the World Trade Center on the day of the attacks.
