‘Absolute devastation’: Fire service leaders, officials react to Hawaii wildfires
Amid the flames, first responders are working to rescue and evacuate stranded tourists and residents from the island of Maui

MAUI, Hawaii — Wildfires on Maui continue to rage as the death toll rises to 36; residents and tourists reportedly fled into the ocean to escape the flames.
Federal, state and local officials from across the country are offering their condolences to those affected by the wildfires and sharing support for the first responders and National Guard members working to prevent more loss of life.
For those interested, we also included a few organizations collecting donations for firefighters, emergency providers and others assisting with disaster management, as well as individuals and animals affected by the blaze.
