BCBSAZ and Phoenix Fire Department Team Up to Promote Water and Fire Safety
Ten P.F.D. Fire Trucks to Feature Mobile Reminders for Residents
PHOENIX — Phoenix-area residents will soon see more than red on fire trucks starting today. In a partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ), the Phoenix Fire Department is trying to heighten awareness of the importance of smoke alarms and the seriousness of water safety through public service posters appearing on the rollup doors of ten Phoenix Fire Department trucks.
"Our commitment to the health and well-being of Arizonans extends beyond just providing health insurance," BCBSAZ CEO Rich Boals said. "Working with the great people at the Phoenix Fire Department through mobile public service announcements such as this allows us another way to stay connected and help save lives."
Residents won't be able to miss the 3 1/2-foot by 4-foot signs on both sides of the fire engines, reading in Spanish on one side and English on the other. The tag line hits the heart of the matter: Water safety and smoke alarms save lives.
"People should be doing what they can every day to prevent accidents and keep themselves safe," Phoenix Fire Chief Alan V. Brunacini, said. "These signs are a great reminder to Valley residents that safety around pools and by using smoke alarms starts with them."
Phoenix Fire Department representatives worked closely with Element Design, which donated its time and creative talents to the production of the posters. The water safety caption appears atop an inner tube floating in a pool and reads, "Watch And Listen At All Times!" The smoke alarm caption reads, "3:00 a.m. Not The Time To Check Your Smoke Alarm!" and appears atop a stirring image of flames. The posters closely tie to the safety issues highlighted on the United Phoenix Fire Fighter Web site, www.SaveRKids.org, also appearing on the signs.
The ten fire trucks that feature the awareness posters are assigned to fire stations throughout Phoenix.
