Check the strut straps

Tips

By Mark van der Feyst

Rescue struts are becoming a very common item in most fire departments. These tools are great for stabilizing vehicles in any position. These tools work with webbing straps to secure the base of the strut to either the vehicle or to another strut.

The webbing straps are about 2 inches wide and can easily fray or tear from coming into contact with sharp objects. Inspect the straps for any type of fraying or tearing. These little nicks can lend to the strap failing under a load causing a bigger problem.
