1. Where did your company name originate from?

When Dr. Homer Stryker, an orthopedic surgeon from Kalamazoo, Mich., found that certain medical products were not meeting his patients’ needs, he invented new ones. As interest in these products grew, Dr. Stryker started a company in 1941 to produce them.

Today, we are one of the world's leading medical technology companies. Our growth is based on a diverse array of innovative products and services in Orthopedics, Medical and Surgical, and Neurotechnology and Spine that help improve patient and hospital outcomes, which we achieve through the dedication of our more than 43,000 employees globally.

2. What is your signature product and how does it work?

We are known as the leader in the industry for many products including Power-PRO 2 powered ambulance cot, LUCAS chest compression system and LIFEPAK 15 monitor/defibrillator.

3. What do your customers like best about you and your products?

At Stryker, quality is first in everything we do. We are driven to make healthcare better for our customers by providing innovative products and services that meet regulatory requirements through our effective quality system.

We are committed to meeting and exceeding global regulatory standards. We stand behind our products and address issues if they arise. To support this, we have a robust quality data program that includes key process indicators for different dimensions of quality. This data is used to manage the day-to-day quality activities and is also regularly reviewed with executive leadership.

4. What is the most rewarding part of serving the first responder community?

Our integrated system of equipment, devices and data empowers first responder teams to improve clinical care and enhance operational performance.

5. Do you support any charitable organizations within public safety or the community? Tell us more.

Stryker’s Forward Hearts programs lets survivors of a sudden cardiac arrest event pay it forward and potentially save another life by donating an AED to the charitable organization of the survivor’s choice.

When a HeartSine samaritan PAD, LIFEPAK CR2, LIFEPAK CR Plus or LIFEPAK EXPRESS AED is used to help save a life, the survivor chooses an organization to receive the donated AED. The survivor can choose to make their donation to the organization anonymously or be part of a public announcement.

Stryker is committed to saving lives and making public access AEDs more readily available in the workplace and community. The donation of a defibrillator through the Forward Hearts program extends this lifesaving technology to even more people, offering many a better chance of survival in the case of sudden cardiac arrest.
