Ga. fire station, pumper severely damaged in blaze

No one was inside the Monroe County Emergency Services station when the fire began

MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — A Monroe County Emergency Services station was seriously damaged in a structure fire late Saturday night, the agency said on Facebook.

No one was at Monroe County Emergency Services Station 10 at the time, but a 2001 Freightliner pumper in the garage was severely damaged.

Battalion Chief Clay Walton hurt one of his knees while fighting the fire and was transported to a hospital.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation by the Georgia fire marshal’s office.
