2018 Globe Gear Giveaway equipped 13 departments with needed turnout gear

 

The 2018 Globe Gear Giveaway provided 13 volunteer fire departments with 52 sets of new, state-ofthe-art turnout gear. Each department received four sets of gear to enhance the safety of their firefighters who previously made do with old, worn, and non-compliant gear that provided less-thanoptimal protection. The Giveaway is an annual program by Globe and DuPont, in partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC).

The 2018 Globe Gear Giveaway recipients include:
 Barnsdall Rural Fire Department (OK)
 Ben Lomond Fire Protection District (CA)
 Burnettsville Volunteer Fire Department (IN)
 Cedar Fort Volunteer Fire Department (UT)
 Gardiner Rural Fire Department (OR)
 Hindman Volunteer Fire Department (KY)
 Huntington Volunteer Fire Company (NJ)
 New Victoria Fire Department (NS, Canada)
 Pattonsburg Fire and Rescue Protection District (MO)
 Providence Fire & Rescue (NC)
 Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department (VT)
 Shinbone Valley Fire and Rescue (AL)
 Strong Volunteer Fire Company (PA)

To be eligible for the 2018 Giveaway, departments had to be over 50 percent volunteer, serve a population of 25,000 or less, be located in the U.S. or Canada, be a member of the NVFC, and demonstrate significant need for new gear that could not be met through other funding sources. To help departments with the membership requirement, Globe also sponsored NVFC memberships for the first 500 applicants. Over 800 departments applied for the gear in 2018, demonstrating the immense need for this type of program.

Since 2012, Globe, DuPont, and the NVFC have been annually awarding gear through the Globe Gear Giveaway to help volunteer fire departments better protect their responders. To date, the program has granted 455 sets to 95 departments in need.
