Check for chain saw slack

Tips

By Mark van der Feyst

It is important to always check the slack of the chain on the cutting bar of a ventilation saw. The chain is able to expand and contract based upon hot and cold temperature extremes. This happens when it is being operated for any type of cutting operation.

The chain can become loosened, creating a wider gap between the bar the teeth of the bottom portion of the chain. To check this gap, pull up on the chain when the saw is not being operated. The bottom teeth should still be in contact with the bar by a portion of the tooth being recessed below the edge of the bar. If the teeth are completely away from the bar, then the chain needs to be tightened.
