Fire departments kick off Safety Stand Down week focused on 'Rebuilding Rehab'
Agencies across the country are sharing their resources, activities for post-incident physical and psychological health
The 2021 Safety Stand Down is underway, and departments across the country are sharing their resources and activities focused on this year's theme, "Rebuilding Rehab."
The Safety Stand Down program, which encourages departments to suspend non-emergency activities for a week in order to focus on safety training, is sponsored by the IAFC Safety, Health and Survival Section, the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
The "Rebuilding Rehab" theme directs firefighters to focus on post-incident wellbeing, including cardiac health, mental health, nutrition, hydration and management of exposure and heat stress.
Education and training resources will be available on the Safety Stand Down website for fire departments to use throughout the program week, and will be updated periodically in the lead-up to the event.

#SafetyStandDown theme is "Rebuild Rehab." Today let's talk heat stress & hydration. The 1st chart shows the effect of the relative humidity & full sun ⬆ the heat index value by 15°! The 2nd chart helps tell if you are dehydrated based on the color of your urine. #RebuildRehab pic.twitter.com/nJFcNBbPci— Responder Wipes (@responderwipes) June 21, 2021
