Manchester fires in focus: The need for mayday training and safe staffing
Following two mayday incidents in two weeks, Chief Bashoor calls for increased advocacy for fireground staffing
Following two mayday incidents in Manchester, N.H., Chief Marc Bashoor reviews a video from one of the incidents as an example of why firefighters must advocate for safe staffing and focus on mayday training.

- Boston FFs pay for burned N.H. captain's family's hotel stay
Author's note: "Safe staffing levels on fire engines is critical. The Manchester fire video shows good levels of staffing in action, which likely helped avoid additional injuries and fatalities. My commentary shows that even when there are good staffing levels, firefighters often get separated and have to work in tandem with other crews. The video underscores the need to advocate for increased staffing at the thousands of fire stations around the country that have less-than-safe staffing levels assigned or available."
