Mass. firefighters pass helmet around state to support retired colleague with ALS

Dale Melanson's helmet has visited more than two dozen departments so far

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — Firefighters throughout the state are taking part in a fundraiser to help retired Plymouth firefighter Dale Melanson battle ALS, a neurological disease.

They are sending his helmet around the state, signing it as a show of support and donating toward his medical bills.

CBS News reported Friday that Melanson’s helmet has visited 27 fire departments and counting.
